Back in the Swing of Things

It's been a long time since my last blog post!

This summer I started working on a graduate degree in education and have been taking classes online. These classes have kept me busy with lots of reading and writing that has taken some of my time and energy away from maintaining a blog. I apologize. I am really enjoying what I am learning and love that I am able to take what I am learning and apply it right into my classroom! I am getting my TESOL certificate (teaching English as a second language) and have been learning so much about how to teach English to my German students and a lot about how we acquire languages. Interesting stuff!

Here are some highlights looking back to Christmas!
(scroll down to see some things that are coming in the future!)

I stayed in Germany for Christmas this year and had my first Christmas away from home. Although it certainly felt different, it was really special to have some visitors come and to show them where I live and to explore some new places.

First, my brother, Mark came to visit. We had a blast going skiing together in the mountains and going down some amazing slopes! Thank you Mark for taking me to these great places!

We loved the spectacular views!

The mountains were unforgettable!

Then, we spent Christmas in Berlin. We really liked the city and had a great time seeing new places, being reminded of the city's important history, and eating yummy food!

After Mark came, my dear friend Melissa came for New Years! It was so nice to have her here and to show her around. We enjoyed the beautiful snow and going to some great local places together. I am so thankful for Melissa's friendship and that she came all the way here to visit me!

New Year's Fireworks in town!

Trip to a local castle.

Exploring Basel

After Christmas break, it was back into the swing of things at school. There's always a lot going on and it can be challenging at times. We are starting to put a lot more work into our curriculum and continuing to advance the school through this year.

Despite all the planning and unknowns, I feel very fortunate to have a class of eager learners who love to learn new things and continually amaze me.

We learned about insects so we went looking for some around the school. It's hard to find insects in winter!

Drawing our tree for the month of January.

Getting ready for second grade learning chapel. We learned about different names of God.

Looking to the future:
This month, with a lot of prayer, I decided that I am going to stay in Germany for a fourth year (2015-2016 school year). God has given me a lot of peace after finally making my decision, and I look forward to what He has in store for me next year! There are still a lot of unknowns, but God has been showing me that He will take care of me and provide for all of my needs. I am excited to stay with my group of high school girls and to continue to serve missionary and German students at our bilingual school. I will be coming home this summer to see family and friends again and would love to meet up with you!

Upcoming events:
Feb. 6-8: Staff Retreat- I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend away.
Feb. 9-13: Theater Week at CSK- each class practices and then performs a bilingual play!
Feb. 19, 20: Parent Teacher Conferences
Feb. 27- March 1: High school Retreat- spiritual retreat with my high school small group

Mission Trip
This year I am happy to share that I am helping to lead a mission trip to Longido, Tanzania with BFA high school students. We will be serving in a school and sharing Christ's love with children through English and Bible lessons, skits, games, songs, and more. We will also be working on a few construction projects and coming alongside missionaries from the area. This will be over Spring Break and we are currently gathering resources and ideas for the trip. I am so excited to see how God uses these students as we serve together and love these children.

We are also raising funds for the trip. If you are interesting in giving to support our mission to Tanzania please go to https://give.teachbeyond.org/ and specify Tanzania Trip. Thanks so much for your support and prayers!
